Pristine, White Coconut
Mmmmmmm
What’s brown and hard on the outside, but soft, white and sweet on the inside?
A Bounty Bar!
But we’re not here to discuss our favourite confectionary; we’re here to talk about the main ingredient – Coconuts!
Nice nuts
Coconuts are tender-fleshed, milk filled balls of fun. Young ones are softer shelled and full of electrolytes (salts that keep you well hydrated). More mature coconuts are hard-shelled and hairy (much like your great Uncle Peter).
Genius Juices
Back in WWII, fresh coconuts were a valuable commodity in Asian climes. Fresh coconut juice from the young coconuts are full of electrolytes, minerals and salts that replace the natural mineral content of the body that we lose through sweating, diarrhoea and all other sorts of ‘natural functions’. Normally injured soldiers would use a saline drip to replace lost fluids. However, as often no saline was available, coconut juice was used and given to the patients intravenously. The miracle juice is thought by some to be more effective than saline itself.
Unfortunately, the juice loses its medicinal properties soon after the coconut is opened and can’t be transported. For shame.
